Wanted: Senior Ruby/JavaScript Developers
The Job:
We are hiring a technical problem-solver to streamline operations and enable strategic initiatives in the online advertising marketplace. You will help automate crucial business processes, integrate and deploy ad technologies, design customer-worthy data outputs, and incorporate MonkeyBroker’s emerging web technologies into the advertising world.
You will join a team that is designed so that it can build and iterate fast, and will get to touch on a lot of different aspects of the online advertising industry. You`ll be expected to learn the business as well as its technology and be given direct responsibility for defining and solving problems. This is not a “build to the spec” type of job.
MonkeyBroker has a flat engineering structure that gives individuals a great deal of responsibility. As a senior developer at MonkeyBroker, you will be involved in all stages of developing the product you are working on. You`ll create new product ideas and help guide the product roadmap, spec out what the next generation will look like, and implement it yourself. Because of this, we look for individuals who thrive in a less structured environment where they will work creatively and take initiative.
You:
We are looking for someone with a strong engineering background who enjoys building high quality products used by millions, transparently. You’ll be programming mostly in Ruby on Rails and JavaScript, so experience in that environment is ideal. A good product sense, an understanding of the web 2.0 ecosystem, and strong personal initiative are essential. You enjoy coding, but what energizes you is solving real-life problems in elegant and practical ways. You`re comfortable in a fast-moving industry, and can adapt to emerging customer needs. You`re versatile, and are able to wear the different development hats needed to turn a latent customer need into a real, shipped product. You know a lot about software design and development, and when you find something that you need but don`t know, you get out there and learn it. You speak excellent English and can communicate your thoughts clearly. You will be learning a new vocabulary in the Advertising world.
Qualifications:
We don`t expect you to individually have all of these competencies, but the team, as a whole, is looking for the following:
• Strong experience in Ruby on Rails
• Strong JavaScript experience
• Strong SQL knowledge
• Good knowledge of front-end web programming
• 2+ years work experience as a software engineer
• Computer Science degree or equivalent experience
• Understanding of scalability, Database and web application design, and algorithms
• Rapid development methodologies and design thinking discipline
• Usability and interface design
• Data visualization and information design
• Savviness with emerging internet and online advertising technologies
• Deep insight into online advertising platforms, customer experiences and disruptive trends
• Entrepreneurial resourcefulness and creativity
You will learn the online advertising industry inside and out; the team`s value comes from being able to see how things get done right now and articulate how they can be done more simply, more reliably, more elegantly.
